Free Solution for Sending Large Files

By Jessica Stauber, October 12, 2009

Do you ever have files that are too big to email? Then there’s a great website you should know about.

YouSendIt.com came to my rescue twice this past week. It’s a free site that lets you to email large files by using the site as an “intermediary.” You indicate who should receive the file. That person gets an email saying it’s from (for example) “Jessica Stauber via YouSendIt”. They open the email, download the file, and there you have it.

The first time the site played “hero” last week was when I wanted to send a video file to a client, but it was too large for his inbox. So, I uploaded it to YouSendIt, he received an email notification and retrieved the file. Smooth as silk.

The second time a client had a large powerpoint file (nearly 24MB) and it was too big to email. To avoid the inconvenience of physically running a zip drive or a printed copy to our ad agency, we recommended YouSendIt. Again, it worked perfectly.

This site works for files up to 100MB, it’s easy and it’s free. And I think it’s worth keeping in mind the next time you have to send or receive a large file.

If you have a favorite web tool you’d like to share, we’d love to hear about it!
